Stonington Farms Shellfish Inc.
Welcome!
Stonington Farms Shellfish is a small family oyster farm located in beautiful Mystic, CT. Originally founded in 1998 by our dear friend Kevin Blados and his wife Lori. When it was time for them to retire in 2017, we purchased the farm. Like our predecessors, we believe strongly in responsible harvest practices and in the value of hard work. Our oysters are handled and monitored by us exclusively throughout their entire growth process, from seed to market. This allows us to say with complete confidence that the product we provide is of the utmost quality.
Meet The Crew!
Kris
Kris is a master carpenter by trade and has spent much of his life on the water, both in Connecticut and in Maine. When not oystering, Kris is busy running his kitchen and bath remodeling business, Simonds & Co. Oystering began as a hobby for Kris, and a way to spend time with his son Jake. Before long, Kris was committed to this new way of life and determined to take the farm from hobby to full time. On the rare occasion that Kris isn't at work, he spends his time fishing, and cruising to Block Island with Beth on his boat Casbah.
Beth
Beth has spent her entire life in Stonington. She discovered her love of oystering by accident. She went out once with her sons who are friends with Jake had spent summers working for Kris. After one trip she kept going back for more, trading Saturdays at the beach for Saturdays covered in mud. She eventually introduced her best friend Dana to it, and the rest is history. There really is nothing like working out on the water with some of the people you love most.
Dana
Dana and Beth have been best friends for 24 years. She grew up in Mystic and spent summers in and on the waters around Noank and Groton Long Point. She spent a summer helping out on the oyster farm and was hooked. She loves messy, hard work and the satisfaction of working together as a team with her best friends.
Jake
Jake was just 13 years old when the farm was purchased and has grown with the farm every year. He has been on the water since he was born, and brings an enormous amount of enthusiasm to the farm. He can often be found working on various pieces of farm equipment, or cruising the area coves in his skiff. He has developed such an affection for the process of aquaculture that he has chosen to further his education in that course of study. Jake is also a passionate environmentalist, spending hours cleaning the shorelines and marshes in and around Mystic.
Max
Max is our fearless farm mascot. He is the ultimate companion and boat dog, and loves to roll around in the seaweed and mud when we are cleaning our oyster grounds.
